CardiologyMethodist Heart Hospital* at Methodist Hospital which is accredited as a Chest Pain Center, is dedicated to the diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of cardiovascular disease and noted for many firsts in this important field. This 140,000 square foot area is the largest center of its kind in South Texas and is comparable in size to a 120-bed hospital. Methodist Heart Hospital* has performed more than 270 heart transplants and achieved the highest survival rate in the area. Methodist Healthcare has advanced heart care facilities at its new Methodist Stone Oak Hospital, Metropolitan Methodist Hospital*, Northeast Methodist Hospital* and Methodist Children’s Hospital*. In addition, Metropolitan Methodist Hospital*, Northeast Methodist Hospital* and Methodist Hospital all have been designated as accredited Chest Pain Centers by the Society of Chest Pain Centers. Texas Neurosciences Institute*The Texas Neurosciences Institute* at Methodist Hospital which is accredited as a Stroke Center combines physician experience and expertise with a wide variety of resources, specialized personnel and advanced medical equipment to treat brain and spinal cord illnesses and injuries. Connected to the hospital via a covered walkway, Texas Neurosciences Institute* is a 6-story, 133,500 sq ft. facility dedicated to diseases of the brain, spine and nervous system. NeurologyMore than 2,000 neurology-related procedures are performed at Methodist Healthcare facilities each year. Methodist Hospital performs more back and neck (neurology-related) surgeries each year than any other hospital in Texas. A team of dedicated surgeons offer the most current knowledge and skills in providing quality diagnosis and treatment of virtually all facets of neurology including head and neck surgery, epilepsy surgery and hearing and ear disorders. In addition, Methodist Hospital earned the Gold Seal of Approval from The Joint Commission for Primary Stroke Centers and the American Stroke Association’s “Get with the Guidelines” Bronze Performance Achievement Award. Gamma Knife Center* – robotic microsurgeryThe Gamma Knife Center* at Methodist Hospital, the only one of its kind in San Antonio, offers a safe, non-surgical treatment for many individuals who have been diagnosed with abnormal blood vessel formations, small to medium tumors located deep inside the brain, or functional disorders. These patients, both adults and children, are often not candidates for conventional surgical methods because of size, location or other risk factors associated with their particular disorder.
Texas Transplant Institute*Texas Transplant Institute*, located on the Methodist Specialty and Transplant Hospital* campus, is the largest transplant center in South Texas having integrated both a solid organ transplant program and an adult and pediatric blood and marrow stem cell transplant program. Texas Transplant Institute* has the largest kidney transplant program in Texas, and is ranked among the top ten percent in the United States. Its programs are approved and/or accredited by United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS), Foundation for the Accreditation of Cell Therapy (FACT), Medicare and Medicaid, as well as being recognized by nearly all of the national insurance Centers of Excellence.
OncologyMethodist Healthcare provides a full scope of cancer services from diagnosis to treatment including surgery, chemotherapy and radiation treatment. The specialists and medical team work to develop an individual treatment plan for each patient that targets cancerous areas with radiation therapy while minimizing exposure to surrounding tissue. In 2008, Methodist Healthcare’s Cancer Services for adults and pediatric patients received a prestigious three-year commendation after a comprehensive survey by the American College of Surgeon’s Commission on Cancer.
Women’s ServicesMethodist Healthcare facilities deliver more than 11,000 babies every year. Our prenatal, delivery and recovery facilities – located at the Women’s Pavilion at Methodist Hospital, Metropolitan Methodist Hospital* and the new Methodist Stone Oak Hospital – are comfortable, well-equipped and staffed by experienced, caring nurses and doctors. Methodist Stone Oak Hospital has joined with Biovideo to offer a free, customized video of the mother-to-be arriving at the hospital, the presentation of the baby and special educational features. Methodist Healthcare has specialized neonatal intensive care units at all its facilities.
PediatricsThe Methodist Children’s Hospital* features the region’s only blood and marrow stem cell transplant program which includes a complete unit and infusion center devoted to hematology, oncology and transplants. It is also home to the Methodist Children’s Heart Institute which is renowned for its multi-disciplinary team of board-certified pediatric cardiologists dedicated to complex congenital cardiac and thoracic diseases, from perinatal diagnosis through adulthood. Children require a special level of patient care – all of the Methodist Healthcare nurses and physician partners involved with children are pediatric certified. We take the time to explain, understand and nurture the children who come to us for care. Our beds and equipment in the pediatric sections are child-sized, and our compassion is extra-large. da Vinci Robotic Surgical SuitesAvailable at Metropolitan Methodist Hospital* and Methodist Specialty and Transplant Hospital*, da Vinci robots allow surgeons to perform delicate procedures without the large incisions of traditional surgery. The “gold standard” for the treatment of prostate cancer, da Vinci surgical suites are also used for urological, gynecological, cardiac and gastroenterological procedures. They result in less pain, less scarring, shorter hospital stays and quicker recovery times. Hyperbaric MedicineMethodist Healthcare offers San Antonio’s largest private hyperbaric oxygen chambers for non-healing wounds, such as those which present a danger to diabetes patients.
